Nissan to restart plants halted on parts shortage
TOKYO (Reuters) -- Nissan Motor Co. will resume production on Thursday at two factories where lines had been halted for one day due to a disruption in the supply of parts caused by the volcanic ash from Iceland, the Kyodo news service reported.
Japan's third-largest automaker had said it would halt production on three lines at two Japanese factories today because it was unable to procure air pressure sensors for wheels imported from Ireland by airplane.
Nissan has decided to resume production on Thursday using parts in stock, Kyodo reported, citing company officials.
No one at Nissan could be reached for comment.
Nissan had said it expected to lose less than 2,000 units of production from a one-day stoppage at one of two lines at its Oppama plant near Tokyo and both lines at a factory in Kyushu, southern Japan.
Models that were subject to the production halt included the Murano SUV, the Rogue crossover and the Cube.
